Rhine Ferries

A declaration of love for the good old yet ever so modern mode of transportation

Without car and passenger ferries, life on the Rhine would be completely different
The following sentence is true even in the year 2018: The ferry connection between Bingen and Ruedesheim has been a vital lifeline on the river for hundreds of years, since there are no bridges crossing the Rhine for a distance of more than 90 km between the cities of Koblenz and Wiesbaden. The ferry has thus always played an important role in the lives of the people living along the Rhine. Although the home port remains in sight, the crossing of the Rhine requires skill and expertise on the part of the captain -- even today, the river remains one of the busiest waterways in all of Europe. Crossing the Rhine on a car or passenger ferry takes only a few minutes. For some, taking the ferry is part of their daily routine to get from home to work and vice versa. For others, however, it is a short Rhine cruise that manages to instill a sense of adventure. There is even an international flavor as barges and tugboats carrying flags of other countries pass by the ferry. Surely, many a passenger would like the crossing to last just a little bit longer to enjoy the spirit of exploration. Rhine ferries leave at regular intervals to ensure that passengers arrive quickly and safely at their destination.
